A herd is more than a collection of animals.
The value of a breeding programme lies in the relationships between its animals.
Which sire works with which female? Which bloodlines complement one another? Where are the genetic bottlenecks? Which animals are consistently producing? Which genetics should be protected?
The Fire Sky genetic record is designed to make those relationships visible.
Great herds are built around great females.
Top Ankole cows in South Africa.
Every Ankole cow in South Africa recorded at 47 4/8" or longer, whoever owns her. Sixteen animals in a national herd of thousands.
We keep this list because it is the only honest way to know where a herd stands. It also shows how narrow the top of the breed is: nearly all of that length runs back through a handful of imported foundation numbers, and a single bull, BA1, sired almost half of it. The list is updated as new information is received.
